West Nile Virus is a disease transmitted by the bite of mosquitoes. Mosquitoes acquire the virus by feeding on the blood of infected migratory birds. A common female mosquito, Culex pipiens, is the main mosquito responsible for the transmission of the virus. However, other species, such as Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus, which bite during the day, can also transmit the disease. The symptoms of this disease can be similar to the flu: high fever, headache, skin spots, swollen lymphatic nodules, extreme fatigue and stiff neck. If you experience any of these symptoms you should go immediately to the nearest medical facility. To protect yourself from infection, you should avoid being bitten by mosquitoes. This video illustrates several important preventative measures, both inside the house and outside the house with environmental sanitation around the house, to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes that transmit West Nile Virus.
