Cowpea is considered the most important food legume in the dry savannas of Africa, where it is grown on more almost 13 million hectares of land. The cowpea pod borer is a serious pest of cowpeas where it damages flowers and seeds. This video explains the use of Integrated Pest Management, or IPM, to control the pod borer. Importantly it shows how an IPM approach can protect naturally occurring biological control wasps to help minimize pod borer damage in the field. In doing so farmers can save money by using less pesticide and still control the pod borer.
