Building Peace

This animation was created using a storybook from Mali which promotes peace, justice, and reconciliation. Bɛn Sigili/Faire la Paix/Building Peace is one of four picture books that began as part of a multi-media peace education program between teachers and students in the Ciwara School in Kati, Mali in 2014, and the teachers and students from the Residential College in the Arts and Humanities, Michigan State University. The books address some of the major issues facing communities in Mali in the wake of the coup d'état there in 2012. In collaboration with SAWBO and several new local partners (Right to Play, International Sports Alliance, and the Université des Lettres des Sciences Humaines de Bamako) we have begun to bring this project to other towns and villages in Mali and neighboring countries.
